Will Robertson is a music producer, engineer, and musician based in Atlanta, GA.
Will Robertson is a sought-after music producer, Grammy-nominated engineer, and talented multi-instrumentalist with over three decades of experience in the music industry. His collaborative approach, attention to detail, and commitment to bringing out the best in his artists have made him a trusted partner in the studio, working with a diverse range of artists, from up-and-coming singer-songwriters to established names in the folk and Americana scenes.
Will’s musical life started early: by 11 he was playing piano, guitar, and double bass, performing in bands and orchestras, and recording friends in his dad’s garage. He went on to study classical bass at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where he also leaned into conducting and arranging, founding an a cappella group and studying for a semester at the Kodály Institute in Hungary. After Rice, he moved to Boston to study music production and engineering at Berklee College of Music, diving into studio work, ensemble work, and internships at world-class studios, and later teaching for 15 years with Berklee Online. Since founding Gallop Studios in 2001, he’s focused on helping artists make recordings that feel honest, detailed, and emotionally alive.
As an accomplished producer, Will approaches every project with a clear understanding of the artist’s vision and goals. He creates a relaxed, supportive studio environment where creativity can take shape. He’s equally at ease guiding first-time artists through a fun and comfortable process as he is pushing seasoned professionals toward fresh angles and deeper performances. With a sharp ear and deep experience on both the technical and musical side, he captures recordings that are sonically rich and emotionally resonant.
But what truly sets Will apart as a producer is his ability to connect with his artists on a personal level. His collaborative approach is built on trust, communication, and respect. He takes the time to understand each artist's unique voice, helping them bring their musical ideas to life.
"He has an incredibly broad vocabulary, and the nuance of communication to understand how to turn rantings into actual music."
- Danny Schmidt
This approach has earned him high praise from the artists he has worked with over the years. Nashville songwriter Danny Schmidt describes working with Will as "a joy," praising his "gentle, loving, highly engaged and invested way" of involving himself in a project at the most core human level. He adds, "Will's one of those rare people that can speak in abstract poetry with the songwriter and then turn around and speak in beats and measures with the drummer, in microtones with the violin player, and in scales and intervals with the harmony singers. He has an incredibly broad vocabulary, and the nuance of communication to understand how to turn rantings into actual music. ...I'm very very thankful for his expertise. And I'm very very thankful for how committed he was to this project from our very first conversation through our final listen to the final master."
Beyond the studio, Will is an active composer and arranger, with songs and choral works featured on numerous recordings and in performances across the country. He serves as chorus director at Congregation Bet Haverim, a Reconstructionist synagogue in Atlanta, where he leads a vibrant, genre-blending choral program.
Over the years, Will has worked or performed with a wide range of artists, including John Mayer, Oliver Wood (The Wood Brothers), Clay Cook (Zac Brown Band), Shawn Mullins (“Lullaby”), Pat Sansone (Wilco), Eliot Bronson, David Berkeley, Rebecca Loebe (The Voice), and Ruthie Foster, whose album Live at the Paramount, mixed by Will, was nominated for a Grammy in 2020.
Whether you’re making your first record or your fifteenth, Will will bring deep experience, sharp ears, and a collaborative spirit to your project - helping to clarify your vision and turn great songs into finished recordings that stand up over time.
